The Deputy Minister of Agriculture-Jahad, while denying the news of the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Iran, stated: "Fortunately, no cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in any industrial poultry unit in Iran so far, and our country is considered free of the avian influenza virus."Â
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture-Jahad, while stating that all countries regularly report avian influenza cases to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), noted: "Since late 2023, over 40 countries have reported outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. However, thanks to proactive health measures, no cases have been reported in any industrial poultry facilities in Iran, and our country maintains a disease-free status."
Rafiei-Pour added: "A while ago, a report on the quarantine and sanitary measures, along with the culling of nine infected birds in a village in Ardabil, conducted in accordance with international standards, was submitted to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Subsequently, over one-month process, further quarantine and sanitary protocols were implemented within the outbreak's epidemiological radius and other relevant areas. The official declaration of disease closure for this incident will be issued by the OIE."
Iraq's Ban on Poultry and Egg Imports from Iran is UnjustifiedÂ
Head of Iran's Veterinary Organization Denounces Iraq's Import Ban as Irresponsible and Unprofessional and said: “The Head of Iran's Veterinary Organization, referencing Iraq's ban on the import of live and frozen poultry, related products, and birds from 39 countries—including Iran—stated: "Iraq's interpretation of bird contamination in Iran with influenza is a completely irresponsible and unprofessional measure. Reporting a single rural outbreak is not considered justification for banning chicken or egg exports anywhere in the world."Â
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture-Jahad, while alluding to ongoing diplomatic and technical negotiations with Iraqi authorities, stated, "We urge these countries to adhere to international standards, obligations, and regulations, which are based on the fundamental principle that Iran holds a disease-free status for avian influenza."
Rafiei-Pour further added, "In recent years, many neighboring countries, including Turkey, Oman, Kuwait, and others, have reported outbreaks of avian influenza. However, we are not among the countries contending with outbreaks in the industrial poultry sector."
